Zen is a commonly used word in U.S. culture, but many have no idea what this flavor of Buddhism is all about. Join Zen practitioner and meditation teacher Anne McCready Heinen for Zen Fundamentals, a two-hour exploration of Zen philosophy and practice. Through discussion and both seated and walking meditation, we will explore the rich meanings and warmhearted implications of Zen. 

What to Expect?

Topics:

  • Overview of Zen Buddhism, with some history and the current picture of Zen Buddhism in the west, including sharing of individuals’ perceptions
  • Major aspects of Zen practice and underlying philosophy, including: Is zazen a form of meditation?


Sitting practice:

  • Guidelines for sitting zazen
  • A sitting period
  • Chanting the Heart Sutra and Practice Principles


Exercise:

  • Interactively relational breakout groups

About Anne

Anne McCready Heinen is an avid meditation student and facilitator with a dedicated Zen practice. In 2017, she completed the 300-hour meditation teacher training with Dakini Meditative (Austin). Since then, Anne has extended her teaching credentials by becoming a Trained Teacher of Mindful Self Compassion (2020) and iRest (2018), as well as studying Trauma Sensitive Mindfulness (2019) and meditation for children (2018).
