“We shake with joy, we shake with grief. What a time they have, these two housed as they are in the same body.”

―  Mary Oliver, Evidence

What a time, indeed!

Do you ever feel consumed by difficult emotions? Do you find it hard to keep sight of the positives when life feels particularly challenging? What if in the midst of all the challenges life brings you could slow down and find gratitude, wonder, and joy? I remember sitting in the chemo room when I had breast cancer, feeling sick, beaten down and scared, AND I also remember feeling gratitude, wonder, and joy.

Have you ever laughed wholeheartedly in the midst of grief? I have, and I know when I slow down and look for gratitude, wonder, and joy among life’s many challenges it makes an imprint on my soul.

In this series, I will share the lessons my life’s challenges have taught me about slowing down, feeling all the feelings, and imprinting gratitude, wonder and joy into my heart even during very hard moments. Through teachings, meditation and shared stories we embark on a journey to more gratitude, wonder, and joy in our daily lives.

About Jane

Jane lives in the beautiful North Carolina Mountains with her husband of 29 years and their two young adult sons.  After 30 years in non-profit agencies working with neurodiverse people and their families, Jane started her own coaching and consulting business in 2019.   Jane believes meditation can help increase a person’s self awareness and ability to be more present throughout the day to whatever arises.  Meditation helps create what Jane calls a “sacred pause” – the ability to feel emotions, stay present, and pause before reacting.

She believes through body awareness and focusing on our breath, we can learn to regulate our own nervous systems.  Jane believes a consistent meditation practice can improve communication in relationships and a person’s eye for joy even during difficult times.  Meditation can help each person create a kinder, more present, compassionate world through personal meditation leading to mindful interactions off the cushion. Having two autistic sons and 30 years working with neurodiverse people, you can expect Jane to meet each person where they are and help them create their own journey.

Jane loves people and will provide a welcoming presence where each person will hopefully feel seen and held.  Jane’s classes will focus on sensory awareness, self compassion, listening to your own heart’s intention, and finding joy even when life gets difficult. Jane finds joy and connection out in nature.  She is an avid hiker and kayaker who loves to play in mountain creeks and meditate at the base of waterfalls. Jane can usually be found reading a book, dancing and singing with family and friends, or sipping a cup of tea on her porch feeding her soul with the mountain view. Jane has been meditating on and off for ten years.

She joined Community Meditation on Mind Oasis in March 2020 and fell in love with the welcoming community.  As a life-long learner, Jane has immersed herself in many courses offered on Mind Oasis and graduated from the 300 hour Meditation Instructor Intensive. She begins her Advanced Meditation Immersion in September 2021!
