Join me on a journey into the lives and spiritual wisdom of four Christian mystics. This course is not about religion or one particular God, but about how ordinary people became true mystics whose words can continue to inspire and teach us on our own spiritual paths.

These mystics were ordinary people, often leading difficult lives, whose personal relationship to the Divine, their inner spirituality and their desire to help others led them to walk great, spiritually-wise paths.  Each week we will learn a little bit about their lives, their teachings and through meditation and sharing begin to see how we can infuse this wisdom into our daily lives and spiritual journey.

Here’s a taste of their wisdom:

“Does God have a set way of prayer, a way that He expects each of us to follow? I doubt it. I believe some people-- lots of people-- pray through the witness of their lives, through the work they do, the friendships they have, the love they offer people and receive from people. Since when are words the only acceptable form of prayer?”

"The best things to do with the best things in life is to give them away."

Dorothy Day

“Lord, make me an instrument of thy peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love.”

“Remember that when you leave this earth, you can take nothing that you have received...but only what you have given; a full heart enriched by honest service, love, sacrifice, and courage.”

― Francis of Assisi

“If I did not simply live from one moment to another, it would be impossible for me to be patient, but I only look at the present, I forget the past, and I take good care not to forestall the future.”

― St. Thérèse de Lisieux

“Be on your guard so that no one deceives you by saying, “Look over here!” or “Look over there!” For the child of true Humanity exists within you. Follow it! Those who search for it will find it.”

“Every nature, every modeled form, every creature, exists in and with each other”

― The Gospel of Mary Magdalene

About Jane

Jane lives in the beautiful North Carolina Mountains with her husband of 29 years and their two young adult sons.  After 30 years in non-profit agencies working with neurodiverse people and their families, Jane started her own coaching and consulting business in 2019.   Jane believes meditation can help increase a person’s self awareness and ability to be more present throughout the day to whatever arises.  Meditation helps create what Jane calls a “sacred pause” – the ability to feel emotions, stay present, and pause before reacting.

She believes through body awareness and focusing on our breath, we can learn to regulate our own nervous systems.  Jane believes a consistent meditation practice can improve communication in relationships and a person’s eye for joy even during difficult times.  Meditation can help each person create a kinder, more present, compassionate world through personal meditation leading to mindful interactions off the cushion. Having two autistic sons and 30 years working with neurodiverse people, you can expect Jane to meet each person where they are and help them create their own journey.

Jane loves people and will provide a welcoming presence where each person will hopefully feel seen and held.  Jane’s classes will focus on sensory awareness, self compassion, listening to your own heart’s intention, and finding joy even when life gets difficult. Jane finds joy and connection out in nature.  She is an avid hiker and kayaker who loves to play in mountain creeks and meditate at the base of waterfalls. Jane can usually be found reading a book, dancing and singing with family and friends, or sipping a cup of tea on her porch feeding her soul with the mountain view. Jane has been meditating on and off for ten years.

She joined Community Meditation on Mind Oasis in March 2020 and fell in love with the welcoming community.  As a life-long learner, Jane has immersed herself in many courses offered on Mind Oasis and graduated from the 300 hour Meditation Instructor Intensive. She begins her Advanced Meditation Immersion in September 2021!
