Gena McCarthy RN, MFT is a perinatal psychotherapist, a certified EMDR (PTSD treatment) provider, a ceremonialist and the developer and educator of the Birth Spirituality and Healing Network. She has worked in the field of physical and psychological women’s health for many years.
She has studied and practiced Shamanic, Theravada and Mahayana Buddhist, Cherokee Peacekeeper and cross-cultural ways of healing. She co-founded the San Francisco Bay Area Tara Mandala Sangha.
She currently teaches, mentors and offers 1-1 therapy sessions for mothers to be, mothers, grandmothers and perinatal professionals. She has an online course,the Sacred Basket Program, for perinatal professionals, that prepares them to enter the birth field from the potency of their wholeness, open to wonder, confident to address trauma.
She is the founder and developer of the Contra Costa County Perinatal Depression to Wellness Network, two local HMO Perinatal Integrative Health Programs and the East Bay/ SF Peer Perinatal Professional Ceremony Circle. She was one of the developers of the Contra Costa County Integrative Health Program.
She lives with her beloved husband in the Bay Area. She loves to meditate, hike, dance, sing, garden, travel and visit with their son, who lives on the east coast.
